Fighting For-Profit Immigration Prisons

ICIRR is fighting against further detention of immigrants and in particular against plans for for-profit immigration detention centers

ICIRR has worked with local residents and allies in communities throughout the Chicago area to fight proposed for-profit detention centers to jail immigrants awaiting deportation.  ICIRR believes that no one should profit from creating misery, and the for-profit prison industry has a long history of abusing detainees, mistreating workers, harming host communities, and even threatening public safety.

We have fought proposed prisons in Crete (2012) and Joliet (2013) as well as in Hobart (2013-ongoing) and Gary, Indiana (2015 and 2016).  Most recently we have joined the fight against siting this facility in Hopkins Park, Illinois.
