Carve-Outs to Welcoming City Ordinance Not Acceptable: Chicago Communities Call on City Council to Strengthen City OrdinanceJune 7, 2017
Since President Trump took office, the role of cities in defending the constitution and vulnerable residents has become more important than ever. As the White House accelerates racist, xenophobic rhetoric that threatens Chicagoans and aims to reverse progress, a diverse coalition called on City Council to pass amendments to Chicago's current Welcoming City Ordinance to close loopholes which threaten the safety of many people.
At today's press conference, individuals and aldermen in support of amendments to Chicago's current Welcoming City ordinance called on City Council and Mayor Rahm Emmanuel to practice what they preach: if our city is really "One Chicago" than it requires one policy of protection for all. The group also announced a rally for the amendments to Chicago's Welcoming City Ordinance next week, June 15th, 11am, at Daley Plaza.
