Ruling Reaffirms American Values of Welcoming Refugees, Travelers of All Faiths and Nations

9th Circuit Court of Appeals upholds stay on Trump travel ban

(CHICAGO, IL — February 7, 2017) The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) applauds today’s unanimous decision by the 9th Circuit Court to uphold the stay on President Trump’s Executive Order and allow refugees from all over the world and travelers from seven predominantly Muslim countries to continue to come to the United States.

“This is a victory for all those diverse communities who have rallied behind immigrants and refugees,” said Lawrence Benito, ICIRR’s chief executive officer.  “The decision, made unanimously by judges appointed by presidents from both parties, forcefully reaffirms the best nature of the United States as a welcoming country for immigrants and refugees. We will continue to resist any future assaults on our communities.”

The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights is a statewide coalition of more than 130 organizations dedicated to promoting the rights of immigrants and refugees to full and equal participation in the civic, cultural, social, and political life of our diverse society.
