All Kids Passes in the House!

Thank you on behalf of Healthy Communities Cook County!

ICIRR members and the HC3 Coalition would like to thank Rep. Lisa Hernandez for her leadership in passing HB5736 "Extending All Kids until October 2019."  HB5736 extends the Covering All Kids program until October 1, 2019 providing health coverage to over 41,000 children! It recently passed the House, 77 in favor-38 opposed, which is a constitutional majority!  We would like to acknowledge the support of Rep. Jim Durkin who has backed the passing of this bill in bi-partisan effort. Thank you to Rep. Bellock and Rep. Demmer for speaking on behalf of the bill, as well.  We would also like to acknowledge President of the Cook County Board, Toni Preckwinkle and Commissioners Jesus García, Bridget Gainer and Luis Arroyo, Jr. for supporting the bill on a county level.  Some important points to take away from these proceedings: 1. The Covering All Kids Act provides Illinois children with comprehensive health care including immunizations, well-child visits, necessary medication, vision and dental care.   2. Many of the families enrolled in Covering All Kids do not have available and affordable health insurance through an employer. 3. The Covering All Kids Act improves access to preventive and primary care and protects against communicable diseases making our communities healthier.  4. Access to health insurance during childhood is cost-effective because it reduces mortality rates and results in fewer expensive adult emergency room visits and hospitalizations
The bill now moves to the Senate and needs to pass before May 27, 2016.  Thanks to all of our HC3 members who helped make this possible:
