Suburbs Talk Faith and Immigration

January 15, 2010

Last night around 200 leaders gathered in Naperville to listen to stories of local family members that have been caught up in our broken immigration system. It was a great night, with quite a show of diversity- Rwandan singers and a djembe player greeted participants as they walked into the church and were seated, partipants listen to stories from China and Mexico, and a number of different faiths were represented.

Toward the end of the program, the audience all called their representative, Congresswoman Judy Biggert, to ask her to vote in favor of comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship; and then signed poster-sized letters to her which a delegation of leaders promised to deliver to her office in person next week: "It's now time for our representatives to find realistic solutions that restore the rule of law and uphold our values of liberty, opportunity, and fairness for all," said Rev. Benjamin Tzeng of the Wheaton Chinese Alliance Church.
