Earlier this year, we witnessed an extraordinary event in Egypt. After 30-years under an oppressive regime, the people of Egypt spoke up, organized, and fought for their right to freedom and a democracy.
This past month, a dozen organizers and leaders from across the U.S. including Joshua Hoyt and Lawrence Benito from ICIRR, Merhdad Azemun from the Nationa Peoples Action, and Ahmed Rehab from the Council on American Islamic Realtions traveled to Egypt to meet with labor and community organizers and other activists in Cairo.
On Tuesday October 18th, as a part of the "Voices of America" speaker series, the participants from Chicago will be presenting and discussing their experiences from Cairo and the lessons that can we can learn from their movement.
In addition, Ahmed Rehab will be giving an update on the recent demonstrations and violence that occured in Cairo last week.
The brown bag lunch discussion will take place at CAIR- Chicago's Gallery at 12:00pm.
