Uniting America: Preparing for AmeriCorps Week

AmeriCorps Week is fast approaching. It takes place from March 10-18 and is a period of time dedicated to getting more people in America to participate in some form of service. This year the theme of AmeriCorps Week is AmeriCorps Works, which is supposed to communicate how AmeriCorps impacts those who serve and those who receive service, as well as the reach it has in the larger community and nation.
 This past week, some of the fellows and I started planning different events in collaboration with various schools, museums and community organizations for AmeriCorps week. The goal of our AmeriCorps week here at ICIRR is to have a variety of events that touch on various issues that affect different communities, including the immigrant community. We are working on creating interactive events that address issues relevant to women’s health, LGBT rights and education among other things.
