NADP/YOUTH ENGAGEMENT MANAGER
Celina Villanueva is currently the New Americans Democracy Project/Youth Engagement Manager at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. With a background in youth development, leadership development and civic engagement, Celina has previously served as the Director of Organizing at Chicago Votes, as well as working on various issue-based campaigns including the fight for Marriage Equality in the state of Illinois.
Celina formerly served as Outreach Coordinator for Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, a role that superseded her work on various state and local electoral campaigns.
As a current board member of the ENLACE Chicago Associates Board, member of the Mujeres Latinas en Acción, Young Professionals Advisory Committee, and a graduated fellow and former board member of the New Leaders Council- Chicago Chapter, Celina has also worked with national organizations such as the National Council of La Raza serving on their Youth Advisory Board and with their Lideres Initiative.
Celina graduated with a B.A in Latina/Latino Studies with minors in African-American Studies and Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is also a blogger and has been featured in Hispanic Magazine and the Tavis Smiley show as an emerging Latino Youth Leader due to her continued work with the Latino and immigrant communities.
